Anti-racism event at Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club

Jan 20th 2022,7:30pm

Hampton Wick Royal Cricket

[The following is an extract from an open letter by Matt Davies of HWRCC. For full text, see link below]

A watershed moment
Autumn 2021 has been a watershed moment for the game of cricket in England. The game is going through a
root and branch review in its approach to racism, and The Wick [HWRCC] is not exempt from this self-reflection.

Irrespective of how well we may think we are doing; the Wick [HWRCC] must do better and we must become anti-racist.

An Open Conversation
We believe that our most important focus (of many) should be on education. Therefore, please join us for an
open conversation about anti-racism at The Wick [HWRCC].

We are grateful to club members who have agreed to talk
honestly about their own experience of racism in our sport and society. We are also pleased to welcome a
number of external voices to the conversation, with representation from the Mayor of London, Richmond
Council, Surrey CCC, ECB and local perspectives from schools, fellow sports clubs and charities.

The event will be in person (subject to Covid restrictions, and bound by Covid rules), and available to watch
online, but will not be recorded. Racism is an issue for everyone involved with the club, so everyone is invited.
However, we want an open discussion, so it is parental discretion if they are happy for their children to take
part. Note it is the intention to run a similar session for the junior section later in 2022, suitably planned and
framed.
