In the Saint Nick of time!
Thursday 14th December 2017
What a great evening! The weather was kind for the event itself – although not to some of the organisers before it started!
Traffic chaos in Lapland meant Father Christmas arrived literally in the nick of time – the carols were coming to an end! The fabulous Fulham Brass band who provided the musical backdrop to the event, had similar troubles. At 5.57pm only two tenor horns had arrived!
The evening started at the Library with The Friends of Hampton Wick Library putting on free hot mulled drinks for children and parents alike. Jenny the Storyteller Elf entranced the children with special Christmas stories. You could hear a pin drop – not a creature was stirring, not even the cat!
Just in time, the remainder of the brass band arrived and formed up outside the Library before leading the children to Christmas Square for traditional carol singing.
Following the singing, Father Christmas, heralded by a Christmas Elf Bellringer, strolled down Park Road with a huge sack of presents over his shoulder. He seated himself in his grotto and one-by-one the children collected their presents, those at the back waiting patiently.
Meanwhile people were tucking into chestnuts skillfully roasted by another Christmas Elf, Jeroen the Chestnut Roaster.
Thank you to everyone who made the evening so special, particularly South Western Railway for the added excitement!
