The Hampton Wick Association was sad to hear of the recent death of Pat Schooling.

Pat was instrumental in setting up Richmond in Bloom and, for many years, was the powerhouse behind it. She was a familiar figure to anyone who ever attended a Richmond in Bloom event. Mark Merrington, HWA Chair said: “Pat was a remarkable person. In fact, when she finally decided to “retire” from Richmond in Bloom at the end of 2019, she proved to be irreplaceable and Richmond in Bloom as we knew it came to an end, But we should celebrate all that was achieved over 30 years or so, particularly by Pat herself, to get the whole of the borough into bloom.”.

Pat’s working life was in publishing and readers may be interested to know that she was instrumental in the publication of Jennifer Worth’s “Call the Midwife” which some years later gave rise to the popular BBC series. An acknowledgment in the original book reads simply “Pat Schooling, who had courage to go for original publication”.
