Friday 27th February 2026

We were saddened to learn of the recent death of Paul Barnfield.

Paul Barnfield (1950 - 2026)

We were saddened to learn of the recent death of Paul Barnfield. Paul enjoyed a life-long connection with Hampton Wick and was a keen supporter of HWA. He was for many years the Clerk to the Trustees of the Hampton Wick United Charity – Helping local residents for more than 300 years.

Paul was particularly well known to many of us through his passion for local history. He was a Committee Member of the Borough of Twickenham Local History Society. The Society has published number of his books about the history of Hampton Wick which remain available. Paul also gave many talks over the years both to the Society and more widely.

Paul was a regular contributor to the Society’s newsletter. In 2025, he was the well deserved winner of the “short article” category of the British Association for Local History Publications Award for his article “Hampton Wick’s first theatre and the diary in Park Road” and the follow-up “Hampton Wick’s first theatre: an exciting new find”.
