Books & Bakes - a lovely afternoon in Hampton Wick

The HWA held its first Books & Bakes event on Saturday 30th May.

The event was the brainchild of HWA committee member Carole Reniero. We invited everyone to drop in to Bullen Hall between 2 and 4pm, bringing with them any no-longer-wanted books they’d like to donate or swap.

A team of volunteers baked an amazing array of cakes for everyone to enjoy while they browsed the books and chatted with other Hampton Wickians.

There was an excellent turn-out with a great variety of books being donated, in adult fiction and non-fiction as well as children’s categories.

The lovely weather meant that people were able to spill out into the Library garden to enjoy their cakes and conversations.

We received lots of very positive feedback with people commenting how nice it was to have a relaxed, friendly event where they could chat with friends and neighbours, as well as meet new people living in the area.

We’ve been asked if we can run the event again and it feels as though we may have a new Hampton Wick tradition on our hands!

We also staged a preview of the “Hidden Gems of Hampton Wick” photo exhibition which showcased the 16 best entries from the recent competition. The exhibition has now moved next door to the Library where it will be on display until September.
